Baptism of Fire

by Asher Eagle

baptism of fire
“I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” (Matthew 3:11)

The baptism of fire has carried with it much mystique throughout church history. Many theologians have tried to explain John the Baptist’s words in Matthew 3:11.

So what is the is the baptism of fire? Some has said it is suffering or difficulties. But the Bible gives a very clear definition of fire starting in Song of Solomon,

Set me as a seal upon your heart ,as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the LORD. (Song of Solomon 8:6)

Solomon tells us that Love is the very flame of the Lord. So simply put, to be baptized in fire means to be baptized in the love of God. I believe many have received the baptism in the Holy Spirit and have walked in power throughout church history without being immersed in the love of God.

To be baptized in fire means to surrender and offer your body as a living sacrifice to be burned up by the all-consuming love of God.

You are the pearl of great price that Jesus paid everything to redeem. You are worthy to be loved because you are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are created in the image of God. He has declared you worthy and forgiven and removed all of your sins and mistakes. NO matter what you have or haven’t done God’s love is towards you and for you!

God is love and God is an all consuming fire!

God’s love is not earned nor bought. All you have to do is rest and receive His Love. He loves you with no agenda. He loves you at your best, and He loves you at your worst. Let His love consume every sin, doubt, sickness, and all unbelief in your life. Let his love consume all insecurities and feelings of unworthiness. I pray that right now Jesus would baptize you in the Holy Spirit and Fire! I pray that you are immersed in the love of God even as you read this!

Thank you for this very encouraging post.

I did not understand these references about God's love towards us..especially those scriptures referring to us, His children
