Abandonment

by Cynthia Dunbar

bliss of surrender
But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— (Philippians 3:7-9)

Lord, forgive me for failing to see

what is deception and what's reality.

I've spent my time pursuing you

but with the goal of reaching some breakthrough.

Thinking that by seeking your face

you'll somehow enable me to win this race.

Missing entirely the ultimate goal,

that you are desiring to enrapture my soul.

Abandonment is an end to itself,

not merely a means of pursuing wealth.

We don't seek you as a means to an end,

for you alone are the end you send.

You fill our hearts beyond comprehension,

til all else fails in comparison.

No goal, no purpose, no pursuit is higher

than to find and be found in you, OUR HEARTS DESIRE!
