God’s love and grace are far beyond anything we can imagine or measure. Jesus Christ came into the world to reveal to the world who God really is. Mankind has been trying to work their way back into relationship with God and defining who they think God is based on what they see in the natural. Many people in the old testament of the bible had glimpses of who God is. Many even gazed upon or saw God. For instance Moses spoke to God face to face and the 72 elders with Moses saw God. Daniel had a vision of the Ancient of Days and Ezekiel and Isaiah also had visions of God. Yet the first chapter of John in the New Testament tells us that no one had ever seen God until Jesus.
No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is in the bosom of the father, he has made him known. (John 1:18)
The above examples demonstrate that people had looked upon God. So what did John mean? He meant that no one had truly seen the nature and character of God or known His will until Jesus came. Jesus came from the bosom of the Father that is, the heart of God and showed us who our God really is. He told us that when we see Him we see the Father also.
If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. (John 14:7-10)
The book of Hebrews in the bible tells us that Jesus is God’s exact representation and that He came to do God’s will.
He is the radiance of the Glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature. (Hebrews 1:3)
Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’” (Hebrews 10:7)
Jesus reveals the will of God to mankind! Just as God is love, Jesus is the manifestation of love! When reading through the gospels, we see Him heal everyone who came to Him and forgive sins everywhere He went. We see Him fellowshiping and unconditionally loving the “outcasts” of society. We see Him wash people’s feet and protect people from religious oppression. We see Him ultimately take on all the sins and sickness of the world in His own body and willingly pay mankind's debts owed to the law and to sin by offering Himself on the cross. Through the selfless act of love on the cross, He effectively destroyed all sin, sickness, death and every evil in the world, and reconciled those who believe in Him back to God the Father.
